Do you know someone in Whitby who volunteers their time to shovel your snow?
The ‘Snow Angels’ program is back as of today for a second year, giving residents the opportunity to thank community members who help to clear the snow and ice off their neighbours’ driveways and/or sidewalks.
“Snow and ice can be difficult to manage during the winter, especially for our seniors and residents with mobility challenges,” said Mayor Don Mitchell. “Whitby is a caring community and the Snow Angels program is a great way to say thanks to those who help their fellow neighbours.”
Now through February 28, residents can nominate a Snow Angel in the community by completing a Snow Angels Recognition form online <r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?f=001O8-LaiEg-gicViG0T6hFtTRwZWzL-6ER1hdSeVa2el-KCQ2QasO39sSoCtb2BDqB65D7yaDOfpj6DB4DM1MattK7Wd8vi4vGn7BACf9MbLa-jybxjFcQ6Et5zMjHRh89MhZR2zvRS1v-sRVWhDnEUEsgKm3I8NYTfpDAxtV73UC1j…> or at any Town facility. As part of the nomination form, residents are asked to provide their name and address along with the name of their Snow Angel. Residents will then be sent a special Snow Angel toque and letter of appreciation from the Town that they can give to their Snow Angel. Last year in its inaugural year, the program saw nearly 190 residents nominated by their neighbours.

The Town is also committed to doing its part to provide snow-clearing assistance to seniors and residents with mobility challenges through its annual Windrow Program. Through the program, snow is plowed from the sidewalks in front of each registered program participant’s home after 5 centimetres of snow has fallen. Sidewalk and snow windrows are cleared after 10 centimetres of snow has fallen.
